Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who were presidential candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) in the 25 February presidential poll, have been granted permission by the Court of Appeal in Abuja to inspect electoral materials used in the election.
The two candidates lost to Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won with 8.8 million votes.
Atiku and Obi have filed separate ex parte applications to challenge the election outcome and have requested access to sensitive materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the election.
INEC, APC, and Tinubu have been listed as defendants in the suit. The Court of Appeal granted the request, and ordered INEC to allow the plaintiffs to inspect the electoral materials.
The materials are expected to assist Atiku and Obi in lodging petitions at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja to challenge Tinubu’s victory.
