Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Lagos State, urged Lagosians, particularly the youth, to disregard the outcome of the recent presidential and National Assembly elections and instead vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming guber and state assemblies’ polls. Rhodes-Vivour made this statement during a press conference held in the Lekki area of Lagos State on Wednesday.
The LP governorship candidate expressed his disapproval of voter harassment, intimidation, and violence, which marred last Saturday’s election in the state. He called on security agencies to protect voters in the state from intimidation and suppression by thugs.
Rhodes-Vivour highlighted that the LP won in areas where the opposition had not won for two decades, including Alimosho and Ikeja. He also alleged that LP presidential candidate Peter Obi’s votes in Lagos were manipulated due to INEC’s failure to transmit results electronically.
Rhodes-Vivour rejected the electoral process’s outcome, claiming that the results were not electronically transmitted as promised by INEC. He thanked the people of Lagos for their support and vowed to make history in the election by restoring Lagos State to the people.
When asked about forming alliances with opposition parties to secure victory at the polls, Rhodes-Vivour stated that he was in discussions with the PDP’s key figures.
In the election, Rhodes-Vivour faces incumbent governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election under the APC banner, and his PDP counterpart, Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor.
During the presidential election, LP’s Obi won 582,454 votes in Lagos, defeating Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer and former governor of the state, who scored 572,606 votes.
