On Monday in Abuja, a faction of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) declared Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, as their candidate for the February 25 election.
Chairman of the ADC’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Mani Ibrahim, stated during a news conference that Mr Obi is the best candidate for the presidency. The ADC, its grand patrons and BoT members, National Executive Council, and National Working Committee, as well as its Diaspora Network and National Youth Council, have all come together to endorse the Obi-Datti movement as a worthy cause.
After thoroughly evaluating all 17 presidential candidates and consulting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the ADC chose to support the Obi-Datti movement.
The Nigerian Mothers for Good Governance, Fulani United, Nigeria Artisans, League of Imams, Nigeria Traders, Yoruba United, Mega Political Coalition, Kanuris United, Nigeria Professional Group, DG Global Groups, Amalgamated Coalitions Groups, and Nigeria Legions United have all joined the ADC in its solidarity, forming a star alliance for the sole purpose of ensuring a resounding victory.
Mr Ibrahim assured that the ADC leadership would encourage its members and supporters to vote for Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, and asked that ADC candidates for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and state Houses of Assembly positions receive reciprocal support.
This is especially necessary in areas where they are more dominant than their Labour Party counterparts, as it will enable both parties to have a good number of legislators to back the Obi-Datti presidency. Many ADC candidates have personally endorsed the Obi-Datti Movement, Mr Ibrahim said.
