According to Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesman, President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to make a national address at 7 am on Thursday, February 16, 2023.
The subject of the address was not disclosed.
The nationwide broadcast comes at a time when millions of Nigerians have been experiencing a cash crunch, which has led to protests and strong reactions across the country.
The Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria have been advised to link up to the broadcast. Earlier in the day, President Buhari met with Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, following the adjournment of a Supreme Court case challenging the naira redesign policy of the CBN.
The President had previously appealed to Nigerians to give him seven days to resolve the cash crunch, and the CBN had extended the deadline for the swap of old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes. However, the Supreme Court has ordered that the deadline should not continue until the issue is resolved.
