On Saturday, as the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, wrapped up his campaign with a rally in Lagos State, suspected political thugs allegedly attacked some of his supporters.
Social media posts displayed evidence of individuals with injuries and vandalized vehicles that were meant to transport the party’s supporters to events.
One of the dominant political parties in the state and its presidential candidate have been accused of being responsible for the attacks. The assaults on the LP supporters took place in the Jakande and TBS areas of the state.
An activist and supporter of Peter Obi, Rinu Oduala, stated, “The ‘Obidients’ are being bullied by one political party that is trying to disrupt the LP rally in Lagos by sponsoring attacks with armed thugs carrying machetes and guns. The wickedness of our ‘intellectuals and celebrities’ is not being addressed enough.”
Another Twitter user, @anthonyabakporo, expressed sorrow over the attacks on the Obidients. He said, “It’s sad to see that some thugs are attacking Obidients. They just did at Jakande, but we were able to evacuate them to TBS where they are receiving treatment. If you face any difficulties, please let us know. Don’t let anything stop you! Be here!”
