The leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has denied rumors that it has endorsed the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The rumors have been circulating on social media platforms.
Bishop Dr. Gospel Emmah Isong, the PFN National Publicity Secretary, spoke out against the rumors during a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP while attending the PFN’s 17th Biennial Conference in Bayelsa State.
He stated that the conference was simply an opportunity for Christians, especially those in positions of power, to come together and fellowship with the organization, and no endorsement of any political candidate was made.
Isong referred to the rumors as “fake news” and encouraged well-meaning Nigerians to disregard them. He also noted that both the vice presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi himself visited the conference on the same day, but at no point did the National President or members of the NEC endorse any political party or candidate.
The PFN called on the 60 million Christians in Nigeria to vote according to their conscience, and emphasized that the organization will not force any Christian to vote for a specific candidate.
The National Publicity Secretary also urged political followers to avoid using social media to campaign for their candidates, as political campaigns should go beyond social media.
The PFN is not partisan, and it is aware that its members belong to different political parties. Therefore, it cannot endorse any political candidate for the 2023 elections.
The PFN asked its members to pray, wait for the Lord, and vote according to their conscience. The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christians Pilgrims Commission, Dr. Yakubu Pam, will be visiting the conference to fellowship and pray for the good of the nation.
