Kenyan police found the body of LGBTQ rights activist Edwin Chiloba inside a metal box near Eldoret town on Tuesday.
The discovery was made after motorbike taxi riders alerted authorities to a box dumped by the roadside from a vehicle with a concealed license plate. Chiloba, who ran a fashion business in Uasin Gishu county, was a well-known activist in the region.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission, an independent rights group, confirmed the news.
Although homosexuality is becoming more accepted in Kenya, it is still considered a taboo topic by many.
In recent years, the country’s film board has prohibited the release of two films that depicted gay characters. The Kenya National Police Service and the Uasin Gishu County Commander have not commented on the situation.
