Windhoek, Namibia – King Phillipe of Belgium arrived in Windhoek today for a five-day state visit aimed at strengthening ties between Namibia and Belgium.
President Nangolo Mbumba of Namibia described the visit as a valuable opportunity to deepen cooperation across various sectors, including green hydrogen, environmental protection, tourism, and trade.
The two leaders are expected to hold official talks upon King Phillipe’s arrival. His itinerary also includes a visit to Heroes’ Acre, a memorial site honoring Namibia’s fallen heroes, and a stop at the HISA Community Centre in Okuryangava to participate in a financial literacy and economic empowerment program.
A highlight of the visit will be the joint inauguration of the Cleanergy Green Hydrogen project in Walvis Bay alongside President Mbumba. This initiative underscores the commitment of both nations to develop a green hydrogen partnership. The King and President will visit a hydrogen refueling station and tour the project’s production facilities and solar park.

Namibia and Belgium enjoy a strong trading relationship. Belgium ranks as one of Namibia’s top export destinations, with Namibian exports exceeding N$5 billion between 2022 and 2023. These exports include copper, diamonds, precious metals, fruits, and nuts. In return, Namibia imports pharmaceutical products, mineral fuels, and milled goods from Belgium.
People-to-people exchanges, particularly in education, have also flourished between the two countries. Namibia has become a popular tourist destination for Belgians, and Belgian investments in Namibia’s tourism sector have seen a significant rise.
