ABUJA, Nigeria – The U.S. State Department has announced a whirlwind trip for Deputy Secretary Kurt M. Campbell, taking him to Abuja, Nigeria, London, United Kingdom, and Paris, France, from April 29th to May 3rd.
Campbell’s visit to Nigeria will be marked by the co-chairing of the sixth U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission (BNC) alongside Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar. This high-level meeting aims to strengthen partnerships between the two nations across various sectors, including security cooperation, economic prosperity, democratic governance, and immigration. The Deputy Secretary will also engage with senior Nigerian officials, business leaders, and civil society representatives to gain a well-rounded perspective on the country.
Across the Atlantic, Campbell will participate in bilateral talks in London focused on the Indo-Pacific region and the trilateral AUKUS security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Additionally, he will meet with his British counterparts to discuss ongoing support for Ukraine, efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza alongside the release of hostages, and solutions to address the critical humanitarian crisis unfolding there.
The final leg of Campbell’s trip takes him to Paris, where he will attend the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) under the chairmanship of Japan. The theme of this gathering, “Co-creating the Flow of Change: Leading Global Discussions with Objective and Reliable Approaches Toward Sustainable and Inclusive Growth,” underscores the focus on fostering economic development that benefits all. Beyond the OECD meeting, Campbell is scheduled to hold discussions with French officials regarding support for Ukraine, China’s backing of Russia’s war effort, and the development of an Indo-Pacific dialogue.
