President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to leveraging technology to instill transparency, accountability, and efficiency in governance, aiming to elevate public-sector performance and service delivery to Nigerians.
Addressing Microsoft Founder and Philanthropist, Mr. Bill Gates, during a meeting at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, President Tinubu emphasized technology’s crucial role in combatting corruption and financial irregularities within the public sector.
Rather than “emphasizing” his commitment, President Tinubu underscored his determination to introduce robust technological solutions, including a national consumer credit system and other essential government interventions, to benefit all Nigerians. He acknowledged the anticipated resistance when implementing such reforms but stressed the long-term benefits for the nation.
“Technology stands as a formidable opponent to fraud, corruption, and irregularities. Our relentless efforts in enhancing technological infrastructure are essential,” stated the President.
Reflecting on his tenure as governor of Lagos State, Tinubu recounted how technology played a pivotal role in bolstering the state’s revenue base. Through the meticulous collection and utilization of crucial data, he revolutionized the tax system, fostering efficiency and accountability in governance.
