Tokyo, Japan – April 28, 2024 – Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa announced a week-long visit to six countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Europe, starting today and running until May 6th.
“This trip underscores Japan’s commitment to bridge the gap between the Global South and like-minded nations, including the G7,” Kamikawa stated at a press conference.
Her itinerary includes stops in Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, France, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. In Africa, the focus will be on strengthening economic ties with key partners, laying the groundwork for an upcoming ministerial meeting on African development hosted by Japan in August.
France will see Kamikawa participate in a ministerial council meeting of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Sri Lanka’s economic crisis will be a major point of discussion during her visit there. While offering support to the nation, Kamikawa is expected to urge them to implement stable financial and administrative reforms.
The Foreign Minister also announced the deployment of Japanese officials to six diplomatic missions across five countries, including South Africa and Britain.
