President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia has accepted an invitation from Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, to visit Dar-es-Salaam on April 26, 2024. The visit coincides with the 60th Anniversary of Union Day, commemorating the historic merger of the Republic of Tanganyika and the People’s Republic of Zanzibar.
President Hichilema’s agenda in Tanzania includes bilateral talks with President Hassan, focusing on issues of mutual interest. These discussions aim to strengthen the relationship between Zambia and Tanzania, building on the foundation laid during President Hassan’s State Visit to Zambia in October 2023.
The friendship between Zambia and Tanzania is deeply rooted in their shared history of the Southern African liberation struggle. Their collaboration spans social, political, and economic domains, facilitated by the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation.
The Government of Zambia remains committed to collaborating with Tanzania on regional, continental, and international platforms, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the African Union, the Southern African Development Community, and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.
President Hichilema is expected to return to Zambia promptly after concluding his engagements in Tanzania.
