Washington D.C., April 15, 2024 – Prime Minister Petr Fiala of the Czech Republic stepped into the heart of American power yesterday, engaging in a series of crucial discussions with top US officials. At the center of attention was his meeting with US President Joe Biden at the iconic Oval Office in the White House.

The agenda of their talks encompassed a wide array of issues ranging from strategic partnerships to economic collaborations. Notably, both leaders delved into matters of security, defense, and economic cooperation, underlining the depth of the relationship between their nations.

Acknowledging the Czech Republic’s pivotal role in the current global landscape, President Biden particularly commended the Czech ammunition initiative, a testament to their shared commitment to international security. Moreover, the leaders vowed to continue supporting Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russian aggression, a cause both nations have staunchly championed for over two years.

Economic ties also took center stage during the discussions, with Prime Minister Fiala highlighting the significant presence of Czech companies in the American market. Emphasizing the importance of diversifying energy supplies, especially reducing reliance on Russian gas, the leaders explored avenues for enhancing cooperation in sectors such as LNG gas supplies and nuclear energy.

“We agreed that negotiations on the nuclear energy cooperation agreement will continue intensively,” affirmed Prime Minister Fiala, underscoring the determination to deepen collaboration in vital areas.

Reflecting on the warmth of their meeting, Prime Minister Fiala noted President Biden’s affection for the Czech Republic, reminiscing about the historic expansion of NATO, which included the Czech Republic, a move pivotal for European security.

Following the White House talks, Prime Minister Fiala engaged with Czech expatriates at the residence of the Czech Ambassador to the USA, where he conferred the prestigious Karel Kramář Medal upon Jana Kánská, daughter of the late Milada Horáková, in recognition of her unwavering dedication to democracy and Czech-American relations.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Fiala commenced his agenda with a strategic briefing at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) headquarters in Langley, underscoring the robust cooperation between Czech and US security services.

Looking ahead, the Czech Prime Minister is scheduled to address the Hudson Institute, a prominent think tank focusing on national security and foreign policy issues. Additionally, he will engage in discussions with key members of the United States Congress, paying homage to the legacies of Václav Havel and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk during his visit to Washington.
