Riga, Latvia – A high-level delegation from the United States Congress concluded a three-day visit to Latvia on March 27th, 2024. The focus of the visit was strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations, particularly on defense matters.
Discussions between Latvian officials and the US congressional staffers centered around the ongoing war in Ukraine, regional security concerns, and the critical role of continued US support in defeating Russian aggression. Latvian Under Secretary Andžejs Viļumsons emphasized the importance of this partnership, expressing gratitude for America’s unwavering commitment to Latvia, the Baltic States, and Ukraine. He stressed the urgency of approving a long-term military and economic aid package for Ukraine to ensure victory.
The US delegation’s itinerary included meetings with key figures from the Latvian Parliament (Saeima), the President’s Chancery, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Defence. They also visited Camp Ādaži, a Latvian military base hosting US service members stationed in the country. Additionally, the delegation toured the offices of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Riga and Edge Autonomy, a Latvian company specializing in unmanned aerial vehicles.
