NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyan and American diplomats met today to solidify their partnership in building peacebuilding and conflict resolution capabilities.
Kenya’s Director-General for Foreign Service, Political and Diplomatic Affairs, Ambassador Moi Lemoshira, held consultations with Ms. Anne A. Witkowsky, the US Assistant Secretary of State leading the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations.
The discussions centered on a collaborative effort to establish a dedicated Stabilization and Mediation Unit within the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This unit will bolster Kenya’s ability to act as a regional mediator in conflict resolution efforts.
Ms. Witkowsky further underscored the US government’s commitment to this initiative by engaging with the first group of Kenyan trainees enrolled in a program on Conflict Mediation and Negotiation. The Director of Peace and Security at the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Lenah Nyambu, also participated in the meeting.
