LUSAKA, Zambia – Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema hosted a meeting at State House on Tuesday with a U.S. congressional delegation led by Senator Patty Murray. Senators Chris Coons (Delaware), Gary Peters (Michigan), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nevada), and Peter Welch (Vermont) also participated in the discussions.
The wide-ranging conversation focused on strengthening the long-standing friendship between Zambia and the United States. President Hichilema briefed the delegation on Zambia’s ongoing economic, social, and political transformation, guided by the country’s national development plan.
Drought, food security, and job creation for Zambia’s youth and women were also key topics of discussion. President Hichilema expressed his gratitude for U.S. support during Zambia’s recent debt restructuring process. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with international partners for Zambia’s advancement.
The meeting concluded with well wishes for both nations. President Hichilema offered blessings to Zambia and the United States.
