Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Sam Ntsokoane Matekane, made a bold move on the sidelines of the African Union Summit, introducing his nation’s candidate for the prestigious position of Commonwealth Secretary-General: Mr. Joshua Setipa.
During a crucial meeting with Ethiopian-based ambassadors from key member states like the United Kingdom, Australia, Malta, Canada, and New Zealand, Prime Minister Matekane passionately advocated for Mr. Setipa’s candidacy. He painted a compelling portrait of a seasoned diplomat uniquely equipped to navigate the complex landscape of the Commonwealth.
“Mr. Setipa’s vast experience and profound understanding of the Commonwealth are undeniable assets,” Prime Minister Matekane declared. “His keen awareness of global political dynamics, his unwavering commitment to the development agenda, and his deep-rooted belief in multilateralism make him the ideal candidate to lead the organization into a brighter future.”

He acknowledged the persistent instability plaguing several regions and the alarming erosion of democratic institutions—issues he pledged to tackle head-on.
