Lesotho has appointed Mr. Ntsime Jafeta as its new High Commissioner to Botswana, further solidifying the long-standing warm relations between the two Southern African nations. While Mr. Jafeta will cover Botswana from Pretoria, South Africa, his appointment underscores the commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Both Botswana and Lesotho share a deep-rooted connection, being members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), and the Commonwealth. Their collaboration extends beyond regional organizations, encompassing membership in international bodies like the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
The foundation of their diplomatic relationship rests on shared principles and values, including mutual respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, and territorial integrity. They adhere to a policy of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, further strengthened by cultural and linguistic similarities.
