Berlin, Germany (Feb 8, 2024): Israeli President Isaac Herzog will address the upcoming Munich Security Conference (MSC), while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be absent, according to conference director Christoph Heusgen.
Heusgen confirmed Herzog’s participation in the DPA but declined to comment on whether other members of Netanyahu’s government would attend. This comes after Netanyahu’s 2018 appearance at the MSC, where he presented a controversial piece of alleged Iranian drone debris to bolster accusations against Iran.
The conference, running from February 16 to 18, will focus heavily on the recent escalation in the Middle East following Hamas attacks on Israel. Representatives from Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Yemen are expected to attend, alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s participation remains unconfirmed.
