Dhaka, Bangladesh: Bangladesh and Nepal pledged to further strengthen their longstanding “trouble-free” relationship during a meeting between Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud and Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari on Wednesday. Both sides expressed their desire to expand cooperation in key areas, particularly economic and power sectors, for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
Foreign Minister Mahmud expressed satisfaction with the recent surge in bilateral engagement between Bangladesh and Nepal. He highlighted the potential for enhanced economic cooperation, emphasizing the need to explore avenues for joint ventures and trade expansion. Additionally, he underlined the importance of collaboration in the power sector, suggesting potential partnerships in hydropower and renewable energy projects.
Ambassador Bhandari reciprocated the positive sentiment, praising Bangladesh’s impressive socio-economic progress under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership. He also commended the existing friendly relations between the two nations and outlined the Nepalese Embassy’s initiatives to further strengthen and broaden areas of cooperation. He identified trade, connectivity, energy, tourism, and education as promising avenues for deeper collaboration.
The discussion extended beyond bilateral interests, as both sides engaged in a productive exchange on regional and international issues of mutual concern. They agreed to work together towards promoting regional cooperation and further consolidating their existing strong ties. Additionally, they acknowledged the challenges both countries might face after graduating from Least Developed Country (LDC) status and expressed a commitment to collaborate in addressing these challenges.
Ambassador Bhandari concluded the meeting by extending a warm invitation to Dr. Mahmud to visit Nepal on behalf of his counterpart, the Nepalese Foreign Minister.
