Jerusalem – German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock arrived in Israel today, her fourth visit to the region since the October Gaza attacks, carrying a message of urgent hope: break the cycle of violence and address the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
“Terrorism and suffering must end,” Baerbock declared before landing, her words echoing amidst the ongoing conflict. “Both sides deserve to live in peace, but that can only happen when each recognizes the pain of the other.”
Baerbock’s visit comes at a critical juncture. Talks in Jerusalem will focus on securing the release of hostages held by Hamas, alleviating the desperate humanitarian situation in Gaza, and ultimately paving the way for a two-state solution.
The task is monumental. Gaza’s fragile infrastructure lies in ruins after weeks of conflict. The German Red Cross, flying in 33 tons of urgently needed aid, paints a grim picture: medicine scarce, water dwindling, food depleted, and thousands homeless.
“Practically everything is needed,” pleads Christian Reuter, the DRK’s head secretary. “This is about basic survival for a population on the brink.”
