Nouakchott, Mauritania: South Africa’s Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Candith Mashego-Dlamini, recently embarked on a productive visit to Mauritania, solidifying bonds between the two nations and exploring avenues for future collaboration.
The visit’s cornerstone was a fruitful exchange at the Mauritanian Diplomatic Academy, where Mashego-Dlamini engaged with officials in a mutual learning exercise. Both sides showcased their respective diplomatic training programs, with South Africa highlighting its offerings through the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) academy. The Deputy Minister expressed a willingness to learn from Mauritania’s experiences, paving the way for potential partnerships between the two institutions.

Further strengthening the diplomatic bridge, Mashego-Dlamini met with His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Yahya Saaid, Minister Delegate in charge of Mauritanians Abroad at the Mauritanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their discussions revolved around solidifying bilateral relations, fostering closer people-to-people ties, and finalizing existing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to unlock productive cooperation.
The visit’s agenda also included a tour of the Mauritanian Diplomatic Academy, where Mashego-Dlamini witnessed its rich history and development through engaging exhibits and a video presentation. This immersive experience provided valuable insights into the academy’s unique approach to diplomatic training.
South Africa’s Ambassador to Mauritania, H.E. Amb Sefuba, and other senior Mauritanian officials welcomed Mashego-Dlamini upon her arrival, underlining the importance of the visit in fostering closer ties.
