Nairobi, Kenya – Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has urged Kenya’s Foreign Service Officers to brace themselves for a rapidly changing and competitive global landscape.
Speaking during a joint wellness, farewell, and prize-giving ceremony for Ministry staff at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, Mudavadi stressed the need for Kenyan diplomats to adapt to the evolving technological landscape. He noted that Kenya is competing for resources with global citizens who are adept at utilizing technology, and urged the officers to be prepared to work alongside them.
“We must race with them if we must win for our country,” Mudavadi stated.
The ceremony also saw the recognition and welcoming of newly recruited Third Secretary Cadets, who Mudavadi described as “the future of Kenya’s diplomacy.” He expressed his appreciation to retiring officers, acknowledging their significant contributions to the country’s foreign policy objectives.
Mudavadi emphasized the critical role played by Kenyan diplomats abroad in protecting national interests, and assured them that the government is taking steps to address the challenges they face.
The ceremony culminated in an awards presentation, with the Africa and Africa Union Directorate taking home the title of Best Performing Division for the 2022/23 financial year. The Central Planning and Project Monitoring Department and the Directorate of International Conferences, Media and Events were named second and third runners-up respectively. The Records Management Unit was recognized for its outstanding improvement.
Present at the event were Permanent Secretary Abraham Singoei, Directors General Moi Lemoshira and Kirimii Kaberia, and other senior officials.
