Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) hosted a delegation from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi on December 7th, 2023. Led by Katharina Rose, Representative of the GANHRI Head Office in Geneva, the delegation included representatives from various national human rights institutions.
The meeting, attended by NHRI Chairperson Maqsoud Kruse and Secretary-General Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, focused on fostering collaboration and exchanging expertise on human rights issues. Kruse provided an overview of the NHRI’s recent advancements since its establishment in 2021, highlighting its active local and international engagements. He also showcased the NHRI’s efforts to promote human rights awareness through educational media content.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the NHRI’s facilities, which are designed to create a supportive and innovative environment for promoting human rights protection practices.
This visit occurred following the annual symposium organized by GANHRI, supported by the European Union, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the NHRI. Held at Expo City Dubai on December 5th, 2023, the symposium explored the crucial link between “Climate Change and Human Rights: The Role of National Human Rights Institutions,” coinciding with the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).
