Abu Dhabi, UAE – On the sidelines of the COP28, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema engaged in bilateral discussions with His Excellency Ding Xuexiang, the Executive Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China.
During their meeting, President Hichilema expressed his gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for the invitation extended during his recent State Visit to China. He also conveyed his best wishes for continued growth to President Xi and the people of China.
The discussions focused on further strengthening the long-standing “all-weather friendship” between Zambia and China, which dates back to Zambia’s independence in 1964. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to building on bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of both countries and their people.
President Hichilema underscored Zambia’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the recent Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Dakar, Senegal. He expressed his appreciation for China’s support for Zambia’s economic development and social progress.
Executive Vice Premier Ding reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening its comprehensive strategic partnership with Zambia. He noted that China is Zambia’s largest trading partner and has invested heavily in various sectors in Zambia, including infrastructure, mining, and agriculture.
