Nigeria and Germany have signed an agreement to expedite the implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), which aims to improve Nigeria’s electricity supply.
The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit, will see to the end-to-end modernization and expansion of Nigeria’s electric power transmission grid within an 18- to 24-month timeframe.
Under the agreement, Siemens Energy will provide the full supply, delivery, and installation of necessary equipment, ensuring project sustainability and maintenance with full technology transfer and training for Nigerian engineers at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The PPI, formerly known as the Nigeria Electrification Roadmap Initiative, was initiated in 2018 with the goal of transforming Nigeria’s power sector. Since assuming office, President Tinubu has championed the accelerated realization and expansion of the PPI, making it a key focus of bilateral discussions between Nigeria and Germany.
“This accelerated performance agreement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing reliable and affordable electricity to all Nigerians,” stated President Tinubu. “The partnership with Siemens Energy will significantly enhance our power transmission capacity and unlock economic growth opportunities across the country.”

Siemens Energy has already delivered crucial equipment worth over 63 million Euros to Nigeria, including 10 units of 132/33KV mobile substations, 3 units of 75/100MVA transformers, and 7 units of 60/66MVA transformers. These are currently being installed at various sites across Nigeria.
The project will prioritize identified load demand centers, focusing on economic and industrial hubs nationwide. New 330kV and 132/33KV substations will be executed in target load centers with economic priority, complemented by thousands of kilometers of overhead transmission lines to connect new substations with existing ones.
