Kenya and Norway have taken a significant step in strengthening their bilateral relations by holding inaugural Political Consultations at the Ministry Offices in Upperhill today. The Consultations focused on a wide range of vital sectors, including trade and investment, blue economy, climate change and environment, multilateral cooperation, regional peace and security.
The Consultations were chaired by Amb. Moi Lemoshira, Director General/Foreign Service, Political and Diplomatic Affairs, leading the Kenyan Delegation, and Mr. Vebjørn Dysvik, Director General for Regional Affairs, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leading the Norwegian Delegation.
The Consultations marked a crucial step in enhancing Kenya and Norway’s bilateral relations, providing an opportunity to invigorate and deepen their ties. The two delegations engaged in in-depth discussions on various areas of mutual interest, seeking to identify new avenues for collaboration and strengthen existing partnerships.
In the realm of trade and investment, both parties expressed their commitment to fostering a conducive environment for businesses to flourish. They explored opportunities to enhance economic cooperation, including promoting joint ventures, knowledge transfer, and technology exchange.
The blue economy, a shared priority for both Kenya and Norway, was also a prominent theme in the Consultations. The two delegations acknowledged the immense potential of the blue economy to drive sustainable development and create jobs. They pledged to work together to protect and sustainably manage marine resources while promoting responsible maritime activities.
Climate change and environmental protection were also high on the agenda. Recognizing the urgency of addressing these global challenges, the two delegations committed to strengthening their cooperation in climate action, environmental conservation, and sustainable energy solutions.
Multilateral cooperation, regional peace and security were also discussed extensively. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to upholding international law, promoting peaceful conflict resolution, and fostering cooperation on shared global challenges.
