MASERU, Lesotho – His Excellency, Mr. Enrique Orta Gonzalez, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Kingdom of Lesotho, presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Ambassador Gonzalez is resident of Pretoria, Republic of South Africa.
The Kingdom of Lesotho and the Republic of Cuba established formal diplomatic relations in 1979. The relations were further strengthened in 2000, when the two countries signed a General Agreement of Cooperation, which led to the establishment of a Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Cuba has provided significant assistance to Lesotho, particularly in the fields of health and education. Cuba has also offered scholarships for Basotho students to study in Cuba in various fields, including medicine and physical education.
In his address to His Majesty King Letsie III, Ambassador Gonzalez expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he had received and pledged to work to further strengthen the ties between Lesotho and Cuba.
His Majesty King Letsie III welcomed Ambassador Gonzalez to Lesotho and expressed his appreciation for Cuba’s continued support for Lesotho’s development efforts.
