MASERU, Lesotho – The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Pretoria, South Africa, celebrated its National Foundation Day in Maseru, the Kingdom of Lesotho, on October 11, 2023. The festivities were led by His Excellency Chull-joo Park, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
Among the highlights of the celebrations was a performance by the Lesotho Tai-Kwon-Do Federation, showcasing the martial art’s origins in Korea.
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho, Hon. Lejone Mpotjoana, noted the rapid expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly at the highest levels. He cited the historic meeting between the President of the Republic of Korea, His Excellency Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, on the margins of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2023.
Ambassador Park expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Lesotho for their participation in the celebrations. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Republic of Korea to supporting Lesotho in the international arena.
The National Foundation Day celebrations are an annual event that marks the founding of the Republic of Korea in 1948.
