The Lesotho High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Mr. Ntsime Jafeta, presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mr. Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa, at the Sefako M. Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
In his speech, H.E Jafeta underscored the importance of the diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries. He noted that his presentation of credentials came just days after the historic occasion of the Official Launch of the Bi-National Commission Agreement between the Republic of South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho.
H.E Jafeta emphasized that the launch of the Bi-National Commission (BNC) and his presentation of credentials were a testament to the Lesotho government’s desire to further strengthen and cement the bonds of friendship and cooperation between South Africa and Lesotho.
The BNC is a bilateral platform for high-level dialogue and cooperation between the two countries. It was established in 2022 to coordinate and implement joint initiatives in key areas of mutual interest, such as trade, investment, security, and social development.
In his remarks, President Ramaphosa welcomed H.E Jafeta to South Africa and congratulated him on his appointment as High Commissioner. He reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Lesotho and working together to address the common challenges facing the two countries and the region.
President Ramaphosa also commended the Lesotho government for its efforts to promote peace, stability, and democracy in the country. He expressed his confidence that the BNC would play a significant role in advancing bilateral relations between South Africa and Lesotho to new heights.
