The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Guyana, Hugh Hilton Todd, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Mario Adolfo Bucaro Flores, yesterday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed advancing political consultations, cooperating in sugar production, opening a Guatemalan embassy in Guyana, and strengthening relations between CARICOM and Guatemala and other Latin American countries.
Minister Todd also provided an update on the recent referendum by Venezuela on the border controversy, to which Minister Flores expressed Guatemala’s solidarity with Guyana.
Guyana and Guatemala established formal diplomatic relations in 1992 and have recently been working to strengthen their bilateral interactions.
