Qatar Amir Visits Guyana, Signs Cooperation Agreements

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – The Prime Minister of Guyana, Brigadier (Ret’d) the Honourable Mark Phillips, welcomed the Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to Guyana on September 12, 2023. The Amir arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) for a one-day official visit.

Prime Minister Phillips, along with President Dr Irfaan Ali, Vice President the Honourable Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, Cabinet Ministers, and Government functionaries, engaged in bilateral discussions with the Amir and his delegation at State House. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and fostering cooperation in various sectors.

During the visit, two agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed by the Ministers of the two countries. The agreements cover economic, commercial, and technical cooperation, as well as the encouragement and protection of mutual investments. The MoU aims to promote cooperation in the legal field.

The Amir was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including his Chief of the Amiri Dawan, HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani; the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, HE Saad bin Sherida Al Kabbi; the Minister of Commerce and Industry; HE Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al Thani; the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi.
