His Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini warmly welcomed Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen to the country on Tuesday. The two heads of state signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The first MoU is on the Women’s Business Start Up Microfinancing Revolving Fund. This fund will provide financial assistance to women entrepreneurs in Eswatini to start or expand their businesses. The second MoU is a sister city agreement between Kaohsiung City in Taiwan and Mbabane Municipality in Eswatini. This agreement will promote cultural and economic exchanges between the two cities. The third MoU is on cooperation between the Overseas Investment & Development Corp., Taiwan, and the Eswatini Petroleum Company. This agreement will promote investment and cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, King Mswati III said he hoped that the MoUs would “bear tangible fruits for the development and prosperity of all emaSwati.” President Tsai Ing-wen also expressed her hope that the MoUs would “strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Eswatini and Taiwan.”
