On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, H.E. Mr. Eli Cohen, commenced a two-day working visit to Ghana, during which he held important bilateral discussions with Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, at the Foreign Ministry.
In a press briefing following their meeting, Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey underscored the significance of strengthening cooperation between Israel and Ghana in various sectors, including agriculture, education, health, cyber security, and general security, with the ultimate aim of benefiting both nations.
The Ghanaian Minister expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the State of Israel for its valuable contributions to Ghana’s socio-economic development, particularly in the areas of human resource development through MASHAV Training programs in health, education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
Trade and investment were also a major focus of their discussion, with Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey encouraging Israeli businesses to explore Ghana’s favorable business environment and collaborate with Ghanaian counterparts to expand trade relations between the two countries.
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister H.E. Eli Cohen acknowledged the warm and friendly relations existing between Israel and Ghana. He further highlighted the potential for even deeper ties between the two nations. Minister Cohen disclosed that his visit marked the first official visit by an Israeli Foreign Minister to an African country in nearly a decade. He assured Ghana of continued Israeli support in crucial areas such as agriculture, water management, and security.
During the visit, a Joint Declaration of Intent on cooperation in the Field of Environmental Protection was signed between Ghana’s Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation and Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection.
