Diaspora Theater Festival Delights with ‘Greetings to Latvijai’ Event

Riga, Latvia – The Diaspora Theater Festival #DāvanaLatvijai held a special event called “Greetings to Latvijai,” expressing gratitude to the attendees and spectators who gathered to enjoy the gift of diaspora theater performances.

The festival, a collaborative effort by Ziemeļrīgas kultūras apvienība, Latviešu Kultūras centrs, and PLATS Pasaules latviešu amatieru teātri, took place on July 1st at Kultūras pils “Ziemeļblāzma.” The occasion was graced by various distinguished guests, including Minister of Culture Nauris Puntulis, Ambassador of Special Tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Diaspora Affairs Elita Gavele, Astra Kacena, Member of the Board of the Latvian Amateur Theater Association, Sandra Bondarevska, Chairman of the Board of World Latvian Association of Amateur Theater, and Zane Auskapa, Artistic Director of Projects of Northern Riga Cultural Association and Head of the Latvians Cultural Center in Birmingham.

Among the honored guests were members of the Saeima working group for cooperation with the diaspora, MP Irma Kalnina, Anna Rancāne, and Kaspars Briskens. The participants and organizers were presented with heartfelt letters of gratitude, acknowledging their dedication and support.

During the event, Katrīna Gupalo graced the stage with a captivating musical performance, showcasing her original song with lyrics by Mara Čaklā. She also invited the audience to sing along to well-known compositions, fostering a sense of unity and celebration.

The festival organizers extended their appreciation to all the visitors and spectators, emphasizing that it was their presence and enthusiasm that made the event truly special. “Greetings to Latvijai” encapsulated the spirit of togetherness and cultural appreciation that the festival aimed to promote.
