Washington D.C., June 15, 2023 – The South African Embassy in Washington D.C., in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), organized a vibrant cultural event themed “Unplugged: Simunye, We are One” at the IFC. The event brought together a distinguished South African delegation and over two hundred personnel from the South African Embassy and the World Bank Group, which includes IFC, World Bank, and International Monetary Fund.

Leading the South African delegation was Ms. Nomaindiya Mfeketo, South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States. The event served as a platform for fostering cultural exchange and strengthening the bond between South Africa and the international financial institution.

Representing the World Bank Group were Mr. Makhtar Diop, IFC Managing Director; Ms. Ayanda Dlodlo, Executive Director for Angola, Nigeria, and South Africa at the World Bank; and Ms. Vuyelwa Vumendlini, Alternate Executive Director for Angola, Nigeria, and South Africa at the World Bank. Their presence highlighted the significance of the event and the commitment to fostering collaboration between South Africa and the World Bank Group.

“Unplugged: Simunye, We are One” marked the second installment of IFC’s Unplugged series, following a successful launch with the Embassy of South Korea in 2022. The event showcased South African culture, traditions, music, and art, creating an immersive experience for attendees and promoting cultural understanding and unity.
