Last week, an Afreximbank delegation, led by Executive Vice President of Intra-African Trade Bank, Mrs. Kanayo Awani, made its presence felt at the highly anticipated AFRICON event organized by Amplify Africa. This conference serves as a vibrant platform that unites the African Diaspora across various fields including pop culture, music, food, innovation, activism, and education. With a focus on entertainment, media, technology, and leadership, AFRICON strives to showcase the rich diversity of the African continent and its diaspora while promoting global community, storytelling, and digital innovation.

Afreximbank, the foremost pan-African multilateral trade finance institution, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to fostering trade and investment linkages between Africa and the African diaspora. By utilizing its Diaspora strategy, the bank seeks to deepen relations between geographic Africa and the diaspora community, recognizing the significant potential for collaboration and mutual growth.

Notably, during the previous year’s US-Africa Leaders’ Summit, Afreximbank cemented its dedication to advancing business relations between the United States and Africa by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the US Exim Bank. Under this agreement, both financial institutions pledged a combined sum of 500 million US dollars to fortify economic ties and expand diaspora commercial engagement across the African continent. Furthermore, the collaboration aims to enhance access and awareness of the diverse range of products offered by both institutions, while also facilitating increased exports of American investment and capital goods into Africa.

The Afreximbank delegation’s active participation at AFRICON demonstrates the institution’s proactive approach to engaging with the African diaspora. By attending and contributing to events like these, the bank emphasizes its commitment to not only facilitating economic growth and development but also celebrating the rich cultural heritage and achievements of Africans and the diaspora worldwide.

Mrs. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President of Intra-African Trade Bank and leader of the Afreximbank delegation at AFRICON, expressed her enthusiasm about the conference and its potential to forge meaningful connections: “AFRICON provides an excellent platform to showcase the incredible talent, innovation, and cultural vibrancy that exists within the African Diaspora. Afreximbank is dedicated to leveraging these connections and promoting economic opportunities that will benefit Africa and the diaspora alike.”
