ABU DHABI, 30th May, 2023 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced the Retired Diplomats Council with the objective of providing services to retired diplomats and harnessing their expertise. The council aims to encourage retired diplomats to share their knowledge and experiences gained during their service with new diplomats.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the UAE’s commitment to acknowledging the contributions of retirees who served the nation. The establishment of the Retired Diplomats Council commemorates their efforts in advancing the country’s interests and demonstrates their integral role in fostering international communication, showcasing the UAE’s global reputation, and upholding values of tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity in society.

Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that the council signifies gratitude for retired diplomats’ contributions in promoting UAE diplomacy achievements and enhancing the country’s regional and international standing.

He further stated, “The Retired Diplomats Council affirms the Ministry’s aim to invest in their capabilities and benefit from their experiences that have enriched UAE diplomacy, contributed to strengthening the country’s position, and highlighted its outstanding achievements in various fields.”

The Retired Diplomats Council is led by Dr. Saeed Mohamed Ali Al Shamsi as the Chairman, alongside members Dr. Tariq Ahmad Ibrahim Al Haidan, Mohamed Ahmed Al Mahmoud, Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, Dr. Mohamed Omar Abdulla Balfaqeeh, and Jumaa Mubarak Al Junaibi.

The council’s objectives encompass attending to the needs of retired diplomats, maintaining their well-being, and ensuring a high quality of life for them. This will be accomplished through the development of a comprehensive database, establishing connections with retired diplomats, and creating an electronic platform to facilitate the sharing of suggestions, opinions, and address inquiries.

Furthermore, council members will provide academic support by delivering lectures, seminars, and contributing to the studies and research conducted by the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA). Their extensive experience will enrich the education and training of new diplomats, fostering a continuous exchange of knowledge.
