Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, took to his official Twitter account on May 19, 2023, to share an exciting development. He participated in a dialogue session with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, at the residence of the United States Consul General, Will Stevens.

During the session, Governor Sanwo-Olu learned about OpenAI, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool designed to empower individuals across various domains, ranging from healthcare and education to creative pursuits and scientific breakthroughs. OpenAI’s notable initiative, “ChatGPT,” was discussed—an AI-powered tool that enables users to engage in human-like conversations with a chatbot. This language model possesses the capability to answer questions and assist with tasks such as composing emails, essays, and code.

Recognized as the most powerful AI tool currently available, ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize the way users work and process information and data. Its advanced capabilities signify a significant step forward in the field of artificial intelligence, opening new avenues for innovation and productivity.

The dialogue session also witnessed the presence of young tech entrepreneurs and innovators, who had the opportunity to engage with Governor Sanwo-Olu and Sam Altman. Their participation emphasized the importance of collaboration and fostering a vibrant ecosystem for technological advancements and entrepreneurship in Lagos State.

By exploring the potential of AI and its applications, Lagos aims to harness the power of innovative tools and foster an environment that nurtures technological growth and socio-economic development.

As Lagos State continues to embrace digital transformation and emerging technologies, the collaboration with OpenAI signifies a significant step towards building a more connected and technologically advanced future. The government’s engagement with visionary leaders in the tech industry reinforces its determination to leverage technology for the benefit of its residents and promote Lagos as a hub of innovation and digital excellence.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s efforts to foster partnerships and engage with key industry players like OpenAI reflect his dedication to creating an environment that fosters innovation and supports the growth of the tech ecosystem in Lagos State. The knowledge exchange and collaboration resulting from such engagements are expected to propel Lagos forward on its journey towards becoming a smart, sustainable, and technologically empowered city.

In the coming months, the impact of initiatives like ChatGPT and the government’s continued focus on technological advancements will be closely monitored, as they have the potential to reshape various sectors and pave the way for a more efficient and digitally enabled Lagos.
