Venice, Italy – The Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Mr. Zizi Kodwa, alongside Ambassador Nosipho Jezile, Commissioner of the South African Pavilion, led a distinguished delegation from the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture at the grand opening of the South African Pavilion at the 18th International Architect Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. The event, held on Saturday, May 20, 203, witnessed the convergence of renowned curators, artists, architects, and a surprise guest, former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki.

The South African Pavilion, a remarkable showcase of the nation’s architectural talent and creative ingenuity, provided a captivating experience for visitors. Minister Zizi Kodwa, in his opening remarks, emphasized the significance of the exhibition in highlighting South Africa’s cultural richness and architectural achievements.

“Our participation in the 18th International Architect Exhibition is a testament to South Africa’s commitment to promoting artistic expression and celebrating the diversity of our nation,” said Minister Kodwa. “Through our pavilion, we aim to captivate and inspire visitors with the unique architectural narratives that reflect our history, aspirations, and vision for the future.”

Ambassador Nosipho Jezile, Commissioner of the South African Pavilion, expressed her pride in the pavilion’s representation of South Africa’s vibrant arts and architectural scene. She remarked, “Our pavilion showcases the harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary design elements, paying homage to our rich heritage while embracing modern innovations. It is a testament to our creative spirit and serves as a bridge connecting cultures and ideas.”
