Nigeria’s foreign minister strengthens ties with Portugal’s new charge d’affaires

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, the Honorable Geoffrey Onyeama, welcomed Mr. Paulo Santos, the recently appointed Charge d’Affaires en titre of Portugal to Nigeria, during a momentous occasion on May 18, 2023. In a cordial ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Minister received the Letter of Commission from Mr. Paulo Santos, formalizing his diplomatic role and affirming the deepening ties between Nigeria and Portugal.

The meeting between Minister Onyeama and Mr. Santos marked an important milestone in the bilateral relations between Nigeria and Portugal. Both dignitaries expressed their commitment to strengthening the existing cooperation and exploring new avenues of collaboration in various sectors, including trade, investment, culture, and tourism.

The Honorable Minister Onyeama conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the Nigerian government and people to Mr. Santos, underscoring the significance of fostering closer ties between the two nations. He acknowledged Portugal’s contributions as a valued partner and expressed Nigeria’s eagerness to enhance mutual understanding and partnership on regional and global issues.

Mr. Paulo Santos, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and affirmed his dedication to deepening the existing bond between Nigeria and Portugal. He emphasized the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges in further strengthening bilateral relations.
