Dhaka, Bangladesh – Today, the Honorable State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Md. Shahriar Alam M.P., hosted a lunch reception and briefing session to introduce Captain Moin Uddin Ahmed, Bangladesh’s candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the term 2024-28, to foreign diplomats in Dhaka.

The event, held at a prominent venue in the capital city, welcomed ambassadors, high commissioners, and diplomats from approximately 25 resident diplomatic missions of the IMO Council Member States. Esteemed guests included the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, the Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK and Permanent Representative to the IMO, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Shipping.

Captain Moin Uddin Ahmed, a highly experienced maritime professional, delivered a compelling presentation before the foreign diplomats in attendance. With expertise spanning decades, Captain Ahmed highlighted his vision, outlining the strategies and initiatives he plans to undertake to further strengthen the maritime industry globally.

Speaking at the reception, Hon’ble State Minister Md. Shahriar Alam expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries for their presence and conveyed Bangladesh’s commitment to ensuring the continued growth and development of the maritime sector. He emphasized Captain Ahmed’s remarkable qualifications and unparalleled dedication to the field, underscoring the candidate’s potential to steer the IMO towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.

The State Minister also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s unwavering support for international cooperation and collaboration within the IMO, acknowledging the organization’s crucial role in promoting safe, secure, and environmentally friendly shipping worldwide.

The gathering provided a platform for diplomats to engage with Captain Moin Uddin Ahmed, allowing them to exchange thoughts, pose questions, and gain deeper insights into his candidacy.
