President Chakwera engages UK investors at networking event

London, UK – His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, the esteemed President of the Republic of Malawi, graced a networking event as the Guest of Honour on Saturday, May 7, 2023. The event took place alongside his attendance at the Coronation ceremony of His Majesty King Charles III. The distinguished occasion, organized by the UK-Malawi Bilateral Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Malawi High Commission, aimed to foster connections and promote investment opportunities in Malawi.

The event, held at the prestigious London Intercontinental Park Lane, witnessed the active participation of 50 prominent business leaders. His Excellency the President, in his role as the Guest of Honour, seized the opportunity to interact with these business captains and shed light on the abundant investment prospects that await in Malawi. He emphasized sectors such as agriculture, tourism, mining, infrastructure development, education, health, information and communication technology (ICT), manufacturing, and financial services as key areas of interest.

Accompanying His Excellency the President were Honourable Nancy Tembo, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs, who played an integral role in facilitating international cooperation; Ms Colleen Zamba, Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, who provided administrative support; and Dr. Thomas Bisika, the esteemed Malawi High Commissioner to the UK, who further reinforced the diplomatic ties between the two nations. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the commitment of the Malawian government to promoting investment opportunities abroad.

During the networking event, President Chakwera seized the occasion to present an enticing overview of the investment potential that Malawi offers. He highlighted the country’s favorable business climate, rich natural resources, and the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for foreign investors. His Excellency eloquently expressed his aspirations to strengthen economic ties with the United Kingdom and attract more UK-based investors to explore the untapped potential in Malawi.

The President’s address captured the attention of the attendees, who engaged in productive discussions with His Excellency and his accompanying delegation. The interactive sessions offered a platform for British investors to gain deeper insights into the diverse investment opportunities available in Malawi. The event sparked enthusiasm among the participants, who expressed keen interest in exploring potential partnerships and ventures in the promising Malawian market.

Following the networking event, the Malawi High Commission in London expressed its commitment to follow up with the participants to explore potential investment deals. The aim is to maintain the momentum generated during the event and provide necessary support and information to interested investors looking to venture into Malawi.

The participation of President Chakwera at this networking event exemplified the government’s dedication to expanding international business relations and attracting foreign investment to propel Malawi’s economic growth. With the collaboration between the UK-Malawi Bilateral Chamber of Commerce and the Malawi High Commission, the event proved to be a resounding success, fostering new connections and paving the way for fruitful partnerships between Malawi and the United Kingdom.

As Malawi continues to position itself as an attractive investment destination, events like these play a pivotal role in showcasing the vast potential that the country offers.
