ABUJA, May 12, 2023 – The Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama, welcomed the courtesy visit of Mr. Robert Piper, the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on Solutions to Internal Displacement, along with his team today. The meeting took place at the Ministry, marking an official visit by the ASG to Nigeria.

Accompanying Mr. Piper was Mr. Matthias Schmale, the UN Nigeria Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator. The discussions centered on matters relating to internal displacement and potential solutions to address this pressing global issue.

The Honorable Minister expressed his appreciation for the visit and conveyed Nigeria’s commitment to cooperating with the United Nations in finding sustainable solutions to the challenges of internal displacement. The meeting served as an opportunity to exchange perspectives and expertise on the issue, with a focus on the Nigerian context.
