His Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini recently met with the Commonwealth Secretary General, Patricia Scotland, for private talks. During the meeting, which took place on an undisclosed date, the two leaders discussed a range of issues including the upcoming national elections, political and economic developments within Eswatini and the Commonwealth Leaders Summit.
According to a statement released by the Eswatini government, King Mswati III explained in detail how elections are conducted in the country and how the government and its structures are formed from the constituency level up to the Cabinet. The leaders also discussed the programmes lined up to assist developing countries and issues affecting the youth.

During the meeting, the Commonwealth Secretary General reiterated the organization’s pledge to support Eswatini and its King in strengthening governance, improving service delivery, and the economy. Scotland also informed King Mswati III that the Commonwealth was available to assist the country in various programmes.
The talks are seen as an important step towards strengthening the relationship between Eswatini and the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth, a voluntary association of 54 countries, is committed to promoting democracy, human rights, and sustainable economic development.
