On Sunday, the head of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, called for an end to all military escalation in Sudan and for calm in the country. During a meeting with Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Budaiwi stressed the PGCC’s keenness on Sudan’s security, safety, and stability.
Al-Budaiwi also praised the humanitarian role played by Saudi Arabia and all PGCC countries in the current crisis in Sudan. He also lauded all international and regional efforts aimed at ending the crisis in Sudan and achieving security and stability in the country.
The PGCC’s call for calm in Sudan comes as a humanitarian truce in the country was extended for three days starting from midnight on Sunday, according to a statement released by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) spokesman. The truce was extended in response to international, regional, and local calls for humanitarian corridors to be opened and for the facilitation of the movement of citizens and residents to safe areas.
The conflict in Sudan erupted on April 15, with hundreds of people being killed and thousands wounded since then due to the long-simmering power struggle between the Sudanese army and the RSF.
The PGCC’s statement emphasized the importance of preserving the cohesion of the state and its institutions and supporting Sudan to face all challenges to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people. The PGCC’s call for calm in Sudan underscores the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and the importance of humanitarian efforts in the country.
The international community, including the PGCC, continues to monitor the situation in Sudan closely and hopes for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
