South African Consul-General in Lagos, Dr Bobby Moroe, has urged Nigerians to consider South Africa as their preferred tourist destination. Dr Moroe made the call during the South Africa Week celebrations in Lagos, which marked the country’s 29th anniversary of democratic rule and the bilateral and diplomatic relations between Nigeria and South Africa.
Dr Moroe highlighted that South Africa is a perfect destination for business, conferencing, tourism, education, and leisure. He acknowledged the significant role Nigeria played in South Africa’s liberation agenda and appreciated the country’s contribution to their freedom.
“We urge Nigerians to visit South Africa for conferencing, studies, business, and to find love. South Africa is open for tourism,” he said.
Regional Head of South Africa Tourism (SAT), Thekiso Rakolojane, also shared his excitement about the South Africa Week celebrations and welcomed tourists to explore the abundance of beaches, wildlife, and other attractions that South Africa has to offer.
The event brought together South Africans and Nigerians who spoke about their admiration for each other’s culture. Musa Nzuza, a South African industrial caterer, expressed his love for Nigerian food and the respect and warm greetings he always receives in the country. Similarly, Herman Franken, who works with South Africa International Breweries, described Nigerians as more friendly and approachable than people he had encountered in other African countries.
Delegates at the event were entertained with a scintillating Zulu dance performance, which added to the celebratory atmosphere of the South Africa Week festivities.
