The U.S. delegation, led by Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), actively participated in the second Summit for Democracy organized by the United States, which was co-hosted by Costa Rica, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, and the Republic of Zambia.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield engaged in various activities held in San José, where she emphasized the crucial need to strengthen democratic institutions and amplify the contributions of young people to democracy, particularly in the face of repressive regimes and as they assume leadership roles in their governments.
During the summit, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield made a significant announcement about the establishment of the Global Youth Democracy Network, a pioneering initiative aimed at providing young people with a direct channel of communication with government officials, and ensuring that their voices are heard in political decision-making processes.
Furthermore, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield had a productive meeting with the President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, during which they discussed crucial issues such as democracy, security, migration, and economic prosperity.
