The street sign honoring executed Shia cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr has reportedly been removed in the Iranian city of Mashhad.
The street, where the Saudi consulate is located, was attacked by pro-regime crowds after his death in 2016, leading to severed diplomatic relations between Tehran and Riyadh for seven years.
The move came after a Saudi delegation arrived in Iran to discuss the re-opening of embassies.
The Mashhad city council had approved a plan to name a street in honor of al-Nimr after Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei called his execution “a political mistake and a great sin.”
