According to the ministry, Israel’s transport minister has given the green light to an aviation agreement with Nigeria that will allow for the commencement of non-stop flights between the two countries next month.
The deal will enable carriers from both nations to operate flights between Tel Aviv and cities in Nigeria such as Lagos and Abuja.
This move is expected to make pilgrimage to the Holy Land more convenient for Christians, who currently have to make a stopover in countries like Turkey or Ethiopia.
Starting from April 20, Nigeria’s Air Peace will become the first airline to operate direct flights, with two flights per week. Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev stated that Nigeria has strong ties with Israel in various fields, and many pilgrims come to Israel to visit holy Christian sites.
The direct flights will not only strengthen the cultural and business links between the two countries but also between their governments. The agreement is still subject to approval by the Israeli cabinet.
